Can you be supervised remotely in Maine?
Only partly. Some supervision or presence must be in person or on site. What shapes this: in-person minimum, prior board approval, video limited.
- Video supervision: Individual supervision means the supervisor is physically present one-to-one unless rules permit otherwise; the approved supervisor may join by live audio or live videoconference for up to 25 of the ≥50 individual hours (3,000-hour track) or 38 of 75 (4,000-hour track). Remote group supervision is not addressed.
- Phone only: allowed within the remote cap (live audio conference or live videoconference)
- In-person minimum: ≥25 hours of individual supervision physically present (≥37 on the 4,000-hour track), i.e. at least half of required individual supervision
- Supervisor credential: No separate supervisor license; supervisor must be 'approved by the board' via the supervision plan: LCPC, LMFT, licensed pastoral counselor, LCSW, CSW-IP, licensed psychologist or psychiatrist with 5 years' licensed practice, a national supervision certification, or 30 hours supervision training + 1 year; board approves the supervisor through the supervision plan
- Board approval first: Supervision plan on a board form filed with the conditional license application; hours must be earned during conditional licensure; changing supervisors needs prior written board approval
