Supervision during the postdoc

Can you be supervised remotely in Texas?
Yes. Required supervision can be done entirely by live video, with no in-person minimum.
- Video supervision: ≤50% of supervision may be remote/electronic unless provided through synchronous audiovisual means, which may exceed 50% (i.e., full live-video supervision is allowed). Remote supervision must be documented. PLPs need ≥1 h individual supervision per week (prorated for part-time).
- Phone only: limited: audio-only or other non-synchronous-audiovisual remote supervision counts toward the 50% remote cap
- In-person minimum: none if synchronous audiovisual; otherwise ≥50% (non-remote)
- Supervisor licensed in Texas? other: supervised experience must come from 'a psychologist licensed at the time supervision is received' (state not specified; BHEC FAQ says supervision outside Texas is acceptable if it meets Texas requirements); a Provisionally Licensed Psychologist practising in Texas must be supervised by a Licensed Psychologist
- Supervisee cap: No numeric cap: licensees 'may only supervise the number of supervisees for which they can provide adequate supervision'
- Board approval first: No supervision-plan filing; a provisional license (issued on proof of eligibility, max 2 years) is required to accrue post-doctoral hours as a PLP.
- If you live outside Texas: Texas practice is defined by client location; PSYPACT (Occ. Code §501.601) applies to licensed psychologists, not provisional licensees. No rule addresses a PLP physically outside Texas treating Texas clients.
