Board approval first: A supervision plan with an approved counselor supervisor is filed with the associate counselor license application. Supervised experience in Alaska may not begin until the associate license is issued and active. After March 31, 2027, only hours earned under an associate license count.
If you live outside Alaska: Not directly addressed. Anyone located in Alaska must be licensed to provide distance counseling, whatever the client's location. A supervisee under a board-approved supervisor may provide distance services.

Associate counselor license created (ch 44 SLA 2024; AS 08.29.210 repealed). 12 AAC 62.145/.200/.220/.225 amended effective Aug 21, 2026 (proposed 4/22/2026; akleg.gov AAC not yet updated, Register 259 Oct 2026). 12 AAC 62.220(g): after March 31, 2027, hours outside an associate license not accepted. Supervisor rule now 12 CE hrs/5 yrs (earlier: 25 hrs/2 yrs); monthly-minimum sentence removed.
