Can you be supervised remotely in Wyoming?
Mostly, with some limits. What shapes this: prior board approval.
- Video supervision: Chapter 18 recognises three types of supervision: individual face-to-face, triadic face-to-face, and individual distance clinical supervision. Distance supervision (by phone or audiovisual devices) counts toward the monthly 1:20 ratio (078-18 §§18-5(b), 18-6). Distance supervision is individual only; triadic supervision is face-to-face. Board forms (Supervision Agreement, VESE) mention only face-to-face and triadic hours (see board_questions).
- Phone only: allowed: individual distance clinical supervision includes 'over the phone'
- In-person minimum: None set by the state
- Supervisor licensed in Wyoming? required: the DQCS must be licensed in Wyoming (LPC, LCSW, LMFT, LAT, psychologist, psychiatrist or psychiatric APRN)
- Supervisor credential: Designated Qualified Clinical Supervisor (DQCS), approved by the Board case by case through each supervision agreement. Requirements: a WY license for independent practice held 2 years, 4 years of post-graduate experience, no discipline, and a graduate course or at least 3 CE hours in clinical supervision.
- Supervisee cap: At most 5 supervisees at one time unless the Board grants a written exception. Supervision of more than 2 supervisees at once does not count toward the face-to-face requirement.
- Board approval first: Yes. The supervision agreement must be approved by the Board before the provisional license issues and before clinical practice begins. A DQCS change requires notice within 10 days and new approval before further services.

Where the rules are unclear
Wyoming’s own documents disagree or are silent on these points. Ask the board if they affect you:
- 078-18 §18-5(b) counts individual distance supervision toward the 1:20 ratio, but the Board's Supervision Agreement form says 'Individual and/or triadic face-to-face supervision shall be provided at a ratio of one (1) hour for every twenty (20) hours', and the VESE and §7-4(a)(ii)(C) log only 'individual face-to-face supervision'.
